Sponsor an eventWe are often approached by our supporters with suggestions as to acts we should book. Sometimes we are able to oblige because we are fairly certain that they will be a success. However, for us as a small organisation, every event is a financial gamble and often we can't take the risk of booking a less well known act and making a loss. We have a very small margin of error between profit and loss and it wouldn't take many bad decisions in a season for us to close permanently - remember, we don't receive any grant support to keep us open now. Sometimes we are able to put on somewhat 'different' events eg the recent 'Hot Dots' circus theatre event, because they are supported by grants from the Arts Council or similar funding bodies. That minimises the risk to us and makes up any shortfall between the cost of booking the act and what we receive at the box office. There is no reason why businesses or individuals can't do the same ! If you truly believe that an act should be seen on our stage, then why not talk to us about being a sponsor ? We would only ask you to cover any shortfall in the overall costs of the event, so if you were correct in your belief that they would be a hit with our audience and we make more than it costs, your sponsorship with its attendant publicity in our programme, posters and on our website would be free ! EXAMPLE A typical David Hall event costs between £800 and £1,800 to put on ( Better known names can go well beyond this which is why we don't have them !). Our seating capacity is 150 and we usually pitch our ticket prices so that we 'break even' on the act when we have sold 100 tickets. (Remember though that we still then have to pay the running costs of the hall - £38,000 p.a.or approximately £100 per DAY) ! So if your sponsored act were to charge £1,000 we would look to price tickets at about £10 each. If we sell 80 tickets, your sponsorship would cover the £200 loss. If we sell 100 tickets, the cost of the act would have been covered, you would pay nothing, but the hall would have had to cover its running costs. If we sell 130 tickets, hall running costs for 3 days would have been covered as well. You would be a hero ! If we sell out 150 tickets, our joy would be complete ! Putting on professional events is tough and the people involved in keeping the hall running at it's current high standard are unsung heroes. If you want to be a part of our continuing success then please do consider helping us by sponsoring an event and help us share the risk - after all, if your judgement is good, we will be able to put on a wider programme of events and you will have received the publicity and credit AT NO COST TO YOURSELF ! If you are interested then please get in touch with Tony Charman - Chairman of P.A.T. on 01460 249009 for a 'no obligations' chat. p.s.
